Blood hair and Aethelwold tries to convince Uhtred into their group to fight against Alfred. Aethelflaed turns to Father Beocca for aid as he fears for his life.
Uhtred turns his consciousness to Aethelflaed plight. Edward is forced to face his duty by Alfred. Ragnar’s army marches but there seem to be traitors from within his camp.
Ragnar’s army is on the point of shatter after a deadly betrayal. Uhtred plans a crafty battle only to find out about an unexpected ally in young Edward.
Edward makes a kingly decision as Alfred makes plans for his son’s future reign. Aethelwold faces a treacherous task while Uhtred and Brida search out a seer.
A message came from Uhtred and the machinations of Skade exploits divisions among the Danes. With Alfred’s health failing, he fights with Aethelwold’s fate
With the mind of fulfilling his vow to Brida, Uhtred risk going back to Wessex. Aethelwold helps to spread out discord from the shadows as the royal wedding approaches.
Alfred confides Uhtred about his plans for Edward‘s unsure future, but Aelswith charts a different course.
As the massive battle comes closer with the Danes, a big decision has to be made to keep Wessex, Uhtred, and England.
