The firm was merged with Harkins & Sells to form Deloitte Haskins& Sells in 1972 and with Touche Ross in the US to form Deloitte & Touche in 1989.
In 2002, Arthur Andersen’s practice in the UK, as well as several of that firm practices in Europe and North and South America, agreed to merge with Deloitte.

Early History of Deloitte
In 1845, WilliamWelch Deloitte opened an office in London. He was the first person to be appointed an independent auditor of the public company, known as the Great Western Railway.
Then in 1880, he opened an office in New York. Moving on to 1890, Deloitte opened a branch office on Wall Street headed by Edward Adams and P.D Griffiths as branch managers.
That was his first overseas venture. Soon after, other branches were opened in Chicago and Buenos Aires.
In the year 1896, Charles Waldo Haskins and Elijah WattSellsformed Hsskings & Sells inNew York. In 1972, Deloitte merged with Haskins & Sells to form Deloitte Haskins & Sells. Then it later merged with Touche Ross in the US to form Deloitte & Touche.
Deloitte Naming and Branding
While in 1989, in most counties, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells merged with Touche Ross forming Deloitte & Touche. In the UK the local firm of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells merged instead with Coopers & Lybrand which was later changed to PwC.
While the name of the private company is Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, it was initially branded as DTT Internation in 1989. The rebranding campaign was commissioned by William G Parre, the then CEO of DTT, and led by Jerry Leamon, who was the global Client and Market leader.
