The Pokémon: Trading Card Game McDonald’s promotion to celebrate Pokémon’s 25th anniversary is making a comeback this week. If you’re in Brazil, that is.
It has been confirmed by numerous sources, including Poke Guardian, that Brazilian McDonald’s locations will be offering the cards in its Happy Meals from September 9.
McDonalds Pokémon Cards
The packs contain four cards each, with each depicting one of the eight generations’ starter Pokémon (including Pikachu). There are also cases, a Pikachu frame and stickers also available.
While this isn’t the first time the Pokémon TCG promotion has been available in South America, with Suriname running it way back in March, this is by far the most widespread launch of the cards on the continent. As with every other country it has launched in, prepare for stock to run out very quickly.
McDonalds’ Pokémon card 2021
Just like with every other Happy Meal promotion, customers can purchase the featured items separately, though this policy depends on the individual McDonald’s store and management. This has led to locations being bought out of the cards entirely, leading to scalpers re-selling the limited-edition Pokémon cards online.
Because the cards are a limited-edition run tied into the Pokémon franchise’s 25th anniversary, there is an inherent collectability factor playing into the price of the cards. Some sealed boxes listed for resale can go for between $600 to $1,000, while individual packs are going up to anywhere from $4 to $20.
